📘 About the Companies House integration in Firmcheck

Importing Company Data from Companies House

Firmcheck makes it easy to bring company information straight into your account from Companies House. You can do this either manually (one company at a time) or in bulk (many companies at once).

Manual vs Bulk Import

  • Manual import lets you search for a company by name or number and check the related parties before adding it.

  • Bulk import is significantly faster but doesn't allow you to review each client in depth. For more information on conducting a bulk import, read this article

What isn't imported

What is Imported

To keep things clean, we skip:

  • Companies that are dissolved

  • Overseas companies (their numbers start with “OE”)

  • A few other types—we’ll refine this over time

Company details like:

  • Name

  • Type (e.g. Ltd, LLP)

  • Company number

  • Registered address

Related parties like:

  • Active PSC's (People with Significant Control)

  • Active officers (directors, shareholders, secretaries)

For each person, we bring in:

  • Full name (first, middle, last)

  • Month and year of birth (we don’t get the exact day from Companies House)

  • Their role in the company

How We Handle Duplicates

Sometimes Companies House can list the same person more than once under slightly different profiles. When that happens, it can lead to duplicates appearing in Firmcheck after an import.

We’re working on a fix behind the scenes, but for now, we recommend giving your client list a quick scan after a bulk import or after adding new clients. If you spot any duplicate names, you’ll need to:

  1. Delete the duplicate profile

  2. Move any linked info (like relationships or notes) over to the correct profile

This needs to be done BEFORE any verifications have begun on the client.

Not sure how to do that? No problem, just reach out to Firmcheck Support and we’ll guide you through it.

What About Companies as Related Parties?

If a related party is another company, we’ll bring in:

  • Name

  • Company number

  • Registered address

  • Company type

We won’t import that company’s PSC's or officers unless you later convert that company into a client, then we’ll grab their details too.

Keeping Your Data Up to Date

Editing Imported Companies:
Once a company is added, you can’t edit its core details (name, number, address, etc.) directly in Firmcheck.
To update anything, head over to Companies House, make the changes there, then click “Pull Latest” in Firmcheck to sync the latest info.

Editing Related Parties:
You can make changes to related people, including:

  • Name corrections

  • Birth date updates (if needed)

  • Residential addresses

  • Roles

You can also:

  • Convert a related party into a client if you work with them directly

  • Add or remove related parties as needed

Do Related Parties Auto-Update?

Not just yet—but we’re working on it. For now, related parties don’t automatically update from Companies House, but it’s on our roadmap.

A Few Extra Things to Know

  • If a company shows up as a PSC or Officer during import, we won’t pull in their related parties.

  • But if you later convert that company into a client, we’ll import those details at that point.

  • Firmcheck syncs with Companies House overnight, so you’re always working with fresh data.
