Connect Claude to Firmcheck

Step-by-step setup: add Firmcheck as a custom connector in Claude using the server URL and client ID, then sign in to approve access.

Firmcheck can connect to Claude so you can look up clients, create them, update partner and manager details and read related parties by asking in plain language, instead of clicking through the dashboard. This article covers the setup.

Each staff member connects their own Claude account, so everyone who wants to use it follows these steps once.

New to this? Firmcheck MCP overview explains what MCP is, which tools Claude gets, and what to consider before switching it on.

Before you start

  • MCP access must be switched on for your firm. An admin does this in Firm settings, then AI settings.

  • You need your own Firmcheck login for the firm you are connecting to.

  • You need a Claude account on a plan that supports custom connectors, on claude.ai, the Claude desktop app or Cowork. Other AI assistants are not supported at this stage.

Client ID

Client secret - leave this empty. Claude asks for one, but Firmcheck does not need it.

Step 1: Turn on MCP access in Firmcheck

This is a firm-wide setting and only needs doing once, by an admin. If someone has already done it, skip to step 2.

  1. Go to Firm settings, then AI settings.

  2. Enable MCP access.

Step 2: Add Firmcheck as a connector in Claude

Do this in Claude on the web, the desktop app or Cowork.

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors.

  2. Choose Add custom connector.

  3. Name it Firmcheck and paste in the server URL above.

  4. Make sure 'Use your own OAuth client' is selected for OAuth access.

  5. Enter the Client ID.

  6. Leave the Client secret field empty.

  7. Save, then choose Connect. Claude opens the Firmcheck sign-in page - log in as normal and approve access.

Step 3: Check it worked

Ask Claude: "Which Firmcheck firm am I connected to?" You should get your firm's name back.

About sign-in and access

Authentication is by OAuth. There are no API keys to generate, copy or rotate. You can revoke access at any time from your connector settings in Claude.

You sign in with your own Firmcheck login, but actions run at firm level, exactly as the Firmcheck API does. Changes made over MCP are recorded against the firm, not against the person who made them.

Troubleshooting

  • Claude says it has no Firmcheck tools. Check MCP access is enabled in Firm settings, AI settings, and that the connector is switched on for that conversation, then disconnect and reconnect it.

  • Sign-in fails or access is refused. Confirm you are signing in to the right firm, and that your user has permission for what you are asking.

  • A company's details will not save. Names and addresses that came from Companies House are maintained there and cannot be edited through the API.

  • It says the client already exists. That UK company is already on your file. Ask Claude to find it instead.

  • A client is missing. Archived, discarded and off-boarded clients are not returned over MCP. Look for them in the app.
