To meet the latest UK Companies House identity verification requirements, your client needs to verify that their passport is genuine. This only takes a minute using Firmcheck's secure mobile app, by scanning the chip inside the passport with their phone.
Note: They may have already sent you a scan of their passport. This final step simply confirms that the document itself is legitimate.
Start from your email
You’ll receive a verification link via email from the organisation you're working with. Clicking the link will open this app to begin the process.
Confirm you have a valid document
Before scanning, the app will ask: "Is your ID a valid document?" This is just asking you to confirm you're using a genuine, unexpired passport - it isn't the result of any check, and it doesn't matter if the passport is brand new or was only just renewed. If that describes your passport, select "Yes" to continue.
Use your phone’s NFC to scan your passport
Place your passport behind your phone and hold it steady. The app will read the passport’s RFID chip using your phone’s built-in NFC reader to extract encrypted identity data.
Tip: remove any phone case and passport case first, and try it on the photo page, back page, and front page if your phone is struggling to read the chip on the first try.
Submit for verification
Once scanned, your passport data is securely submitted to verify its authenticity.
The UK government has introduced new requirements for identity verification of:
Company directors
People with Significant Control (PSCs)
Certain beneficial owners
Your passport chip contains secure data that confirms the document's authenticity. Scanning the chip helps us meet compliance standards and protects your identity.
